For those of you that read my update from yesterday afternoon I am disappointed to report that Matisse did not receive her transplant. I listed my update below too in case you did not get a chance to read it.

Please continue to keep Matisse and her family in your prayers. This was about the fourth time Matisse was called for organs. Mostly she had been put on standby in case another patient could not receive certain organs but yesterday had looked like a sure thing when they received the call. Nothing is ever a gurantee though in the transplant world!

Today a friend of ours from Pittsburgh is finally going to get her transplant. This little girl and her family have been living in Pittsburgh for over two years waiting for organs. Did I mention their home is in New Zealand? Two years and two months is a long time to wait for a transplant! Please keep Matisse and her family in your prayers. She should be headed to the OR around 5 or 6 tonight so it will be a long day followed by many long weeks!

Matisse's story is the perfect example of why organ donor awareness is so important. Many people who get listed for organ transplants will die while waiting for organs to become available simply because the wait is too long and there are not enough organs available. The more we talk about organ donation and the more we make those around us more aware of it the more likely people will be to chose to be an organ donor!

Its that time of year again that we as a group of individuals can come together to save lives in our area!

2008 was a year that brought great sadness to our family. The passing of Ally on October 13th left a huge hole in our family's heart. However, we can honor Ally and all her smiles by taking one day out of our lives to help so many others in need of an organ donation!

Please help us continue our tradition of building a strong supportive team made of friends and family that can impact so many lives within our region!

Ally's story is just one of the hundreds that proved organ and tissue donation saved lives in 2008. Gift of Life Donor Program, the organ procurement organization for eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware, has diligently worked with area health care providers and families for more than three decades to facilitate donation and promote it as a life-saving means, and last year proved to be one of the most successful years.

In 2008, the gifts of hundreds of generous organ donors helped the Gift of Life coordinate thousands of life-saving transplants over the course of the year. This was able to take place because of those donors and their family members who looked past their own tragedies and chose to save or enhance someone's life, like Ally and many others.

Last year, Gift of Life also coordinated a record-setting bone recoveries, skin donations and cornea donations, among countless other tissue recoveries that will greatly improve the life of thousands of tissue recipients. While not as readily publicized as organ donation, these gifts are no less miraculous. Transplanted bone can help rebuild a damaged limb and save it from amputation. Donated corneas can restore sight, and burn victimscan receive donated skin to help them heal.

Today I'm asking you to think about the impact you could have by donating a few dollars or better yet,joining Ally's Angels April 19th in Philadelphia, PA.
