Tomorrow will be two years since we have lost our Angel Ally. We miss her dearly every moment of every day. When we watch Ashley play we can remember all the special moments that she and Ally shared. We can recall Ally's sweet voice and hear the echo of her laughter. We remember her radiant smile, and we feel the hope that we always felt when we looked at this miracle chid. For as long as we live so will Ally, because she is a part of us and we remember her.
We love you Ally, we miss you!

Just wanted to give you all a quick reminder about the upcoming Dash for Organ Donor Awareness! This years walk will take place on Sunday April 18th starting at the Philadelphia Art Museum steps. All additional info can be found on the Gift of Life's website at www.donors1.org or you can click on the link to the walk that is listed on the homepage of this site.

If you are planning to sign up and have not done so yet, please do so and then email your shirt sizes to us so that we can make sure you receive a special Angels for Ally team shirt! Please email shirt sizes to Shane at shaneheintz@yahoo.com (youth and adult sizes available). To gurantee that you receive a shirt please email your sizes by April 1st 2010. We will not be ordering many extra shirts this year so to gurantee you receive a shirt please make sure you email your order!!!

We would love to make this year our biggest year ever for number of Angels for Ally walkers/runners, as well as the amount of funds contributed to the Gift of Life!

2008 was a year that brought great sadness to our family. 2009 was a year of healing. 2010 is a year to honor Ally and all her smiles by taking one day out of our lives to help so many others in need of an organ donation!

Please help us continue our tradition of building a strong supportive team made of friends and family that can impact so many lives within our region!

Ally's story is just one of the hundreds that proved organ and tissue donation saved lives in 2009. Gift of Life Donor Program, the organ procurement organization for eastern Pennsylvania, southern New Jersey and Delaware, has diligently worked with area health care providers and families for more than three decades to facilitate donation and promote it as a life-saving means, and last year proved to be one of the most successful years.

In 2009, the gifts of hundreds of generous organ donors helped the Gift of Life coordinate thousands of life-saving transplants over the course of the year. This was able to take place because of those donors and their family members who looked past their own tragedies and chose to save or enhance someone's life, like Ally and many others.

Last year, Gift of Life also coordinated bone recoveries, skin donations and cornea donations, among countless other tissue recoveries that will greatly improve the life of thousands of tissue recipients. While not as readily publicized as organ donation, these gifts are no less miraculous. Transplanted bone can help rebuild a damaged limb and save it from amputation. Donated corneas can restore sight, and burn victimscan receive donated skin to help them heal.

Today I'm asking you to think about the impact you could have by donating a few dollars or better yet, joining Ally's Angels April 18th in Philadelphia, PA.

Registration is $25.

Also just to clear up any info that you might have read in the Boyertown Times, this event is something that Shane and myself are both working on together. The Times kind of made it sound like this was something I was planning myself. Shane and I both feel it is important to carry on Ally's legacy and to try and help as many families as we can! We both want to make this a great event and help Olivia and her family, like so many people had helped ours.

We wanted to let you all know that Angels for Ally will be hosting another Beef and Beer Benefit! This year's event will help to support a local family and help them to provide the best care for their daughter Olivia while she battles a rare condition, Craniopharyngioma.

Shane, Ashley and I had a chance to meet with Olivia and her family last night. What a sweet little girl! Not to mention she has a younger sister named "Ali" who loves the color red, so she did a pretty good job at winning us over too! Olivia is in first grade at Gilbertsville Elementary, where her favorite subject is art. She also told us that she loves to read "Junie B. Jones" books and that she is a huge Taylor Swift fan! Miley Cyrus's song "The Climb" also gave her a lot of inspiration while overcoming some of her most recent health hurdles.

Olivia's condition has caused her to battle brain tumors two times in her short seven years of life. The first one was operated on and was removed along with the removal of her pituitary gland. Unfortunately, at that time Olivia also lost vision in her one eye. After the surgery to remove the tumor, Olivia had to remain in the hospital for a little over four months to recover. Olivia's second tumor was detected on an MRI in the Spring of 2009. Operating again was not an option because the doctors said her body would not be able to handle another aggressive brain surgery. Instead Olivia underwent radiation treatments for 31 days to shrink the tumor.

Currently Olivia is considered to be tumor free! However, her most recent MRI does show a cyst that is very close to her optic nerve and therefore she is at risk for losing vision in her other eye. Olivia is also required to take numerous medications on a daily basis including steroids and human growth hormones. Many of her meds she will stay on for the rest of her life.

Angels for Ally would like to help Olivia and her family by easing some of the financial burdens that have been caused by Olivia's illness. Please consider joining us at this event or making a donation to help Olivia. Past beef and beer events that have been held in support of Ally and in memory of Ally, have always sold out...and we hope to do the same this year!
